Vision in Business
The Win-Won Business Mindset (#1) - “VISION”
It may be useful to view a business as an ecosystem—one that operates within a broader environment and competes across multiple ecosystems to survive and thrive.
In a healthy open-market economy, businesses operate by engaging in voluntary exchange (e.g. buying and selling) with the aim of generating profit.
A business must be identifiable for participants to recognize its presence. Its vision shapes its identity and helps answer who you are and why you exist.
A good vision is aspirational. A great vision becomes a motivational multiplier, often gaining public support across communities.
There's no standard template. Every business is unique and draws on distinct strategies. Still, here are some things to think about when creating and implementing a vision:
- Address a societal problem, demand, or need
- Embrace uniqueness and novelty
- Align principles, values, and interests (owners, leaders, personnel, and the patrons)
- Provide clarity of purpose and identity
- Make the vision transparent and visible
- Celebrate the business’s value proposition
Whether you're launching a new business or running an established one, take a close look at your vision and how it integrates with your operations. Use vision to elevate your presence in the marketplace.
